LJ is kinda dead, but i've been thinkin a little lately and thought i'd transcribe cognition to electronic journal writing. First off, does my applications look that bad that minimum wage jobs don't wanna hire me? Maybe they can see through the app. into a sense of who i am, i've been told i underachieve, don't work hard, tend to pick up bad habits, and generally people underestimate my intelligence, my social skills, my athletic ability--it could be true or is it i sometimes play down to that level so i never have to reach my "potential". Achieving this idea is determined my many sources you choose to believe what you want to, do i reach it when im totally satisfied or when i reach a goal like graduating college, its all relative. Being a dog wouldnt be a bad life unless you're a dog with 3 legs, has rabies, and was abused. However, the dog is like the only animal that doesnt have to "work", a hen lays eggs a cow gives milk from its teets (i just wanted write that), a canary sings. But I digress, what does a person want from life, i dont know sometimes. Do i wanna work 4 years to be a 9-5 accountant doin YOUR moms taxes. BTW YO MOmma is soooo old she ran track with dinoosaurs-dynoomite i have the pride of my hoood but alas have no cassh muuney! So anyways i dont no if im happy- i do know chillin with homies makes me happy, menial labor like lawn mowing does not, eating crabs with ice cream wets my whistle, while bananas make me sick. I have also noticed i dont really get mad at anything else except people repeating themselves, people assuming im a moron, and people who talk a lot of shit and dont back it up. But as casting crowns says who am I? Education

First off, I think the American education system is broken. The No Child Left Behind Act is hindering the performance of schools, as administrators are gearing for a test rather than teaching for the sake of learing. ALso, teachers/professors have seem to have become extremely complacent, the teaching methods are bland. I mean I think I could read out of the book better than some of these morons. I remember the middle school days where I had 3 of the most incompetent teachers ever, one dude gave us the easiest quizzes and basically scratched his ass all day, another Ms. Zalecki was a beast, id say anorexic duck, who had as much right to teach as my grampa who died in 1975 and didnt go to middle school. America doesnt get bang for its buck, some schools avg. 10K per student as opposed to a much lower per studnet allotment in Belgium but get 20% lower scores in everything. I know tests are subjective and many people arent test takers, and I respect that, but there is just no competition to get better teachers and get rid of underperforming schools. The key is motivating the students, and innovation.

TOOO MUCH GOVT> BUREAUCRACY- nothing ever gets done in congress. HANNITY, LEVIN, DR LAURA are fuckin right wing extremists, they piss me off.

Poker has been rekindled in me, i wanna play in a big tourney. My biggest problem now in poker isnt playin too many hands anymore, but i seem to overplay middle pair a lot and slowplay 2 pair and get flushed out. Well my dad is not far off from passing away. It pains me to see him in this condition, as he has always been a vibrant, spiritful person. I have the feeling of loneliness and emptiness because maybe I could have done something. Liver cancer has/will/might take away a vital part of my life, but he will live on in spirit. It's funny how you often times only appreciate or show love for a person when he/she is dying or it has been taken away. 18 years 5 months 18 days 23 hours 10 minutes I have known him and it just doesnt seem long enough; its way too sudden. He will never attend my future wedding, receive grandchildren, go on that cruise, enjoy retirement. This brings up many regrets amongst myself, as I remember the times I would needle him and be an asshole. But Ill definitely miss the times when we'd play ball, climb the Great Wall, see Big Ben (Wallace and the clock), just chill in front of the tv watching the Apprentice or somethin. I took all those times for granted and it will soon be gone. It hurts and its depressing. So many things remind me of him, from oldies music to the fox news channel- I feel alone. But YOU will live on forever in your friends and family. You're not dead yet, that means a miracle can happen. But if this is goodbye, thanks for everything. Also thanks to everyone who visited.

It's time it's time it's Moy update his journal time! Well break is over, which sucks. I am sad because my dad has cancer but I have confidence he's gonna make it because us "young people" feel ourselves and the people around us are invicible, but I truly believe it. Glad they transferred him from Providence hospital (the ghetto hospital), cuz that psycho in the bed next to my dad was gettin annoying. Besides that break was good, went to a couple Miller parties, thanks mills. Hung out with some people from the past and current friends. Also congrats, to my cuz Christine (fattie) on her graduation. Man Lickety split this years been goin by quick. Watched Wedding Crashers with some of h-dubs finest, Hey, "I'm hang-gliding! Aaaahhh! Take a picture, honey, I'm dead", good movie. RAW is usually not must see tv for me but alas it was on that channel, steves right carlito is cool, and shelton benjamin's moms one hottie jk. Screw school they should start when decide to wake up, and my teachers are odd mofos: left wing indian lady, old granny math, stuttering jeff, and laid back racquetball person. IT'S OFFICIAL: Too much religion may be a dangerous thing.

This is the implication of a study reported in the current issue of the Journal of Religion and Society, a publication of Creighton University's Center for the Study of Religion. The study, by evolutionary scientist Gregory S. Paul, looks at the correlation between levels of "popular religiosity" and various "quantifiable societal health" indicators in 18 prosperous democracies, including the United States.

Paul ranked societies based on the percentage of their population expressing absolute belief in God, the frequency of prayer reported by their citizens and their frequency of attendance at religious services. He then correlated this with data on rates of homicide, sexually transmitted disease, teen pregnancy, abortion and child mortality.

He found that the most religious democracies exhibited substantially higher degrees of social dysfunction than societies with larger percentages of atheists and agnostics. Of the nations studied, the U.S. — which has by far the largest percentage of people who take the Bible literally and express absolute belief in God (and the lowest percentage of atheists and agnostics) — also has by far the highest levels of homicide, abortion, teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

This conclusion will come as no surprise to those who have long gnashed their teeth in frustration while listening to right-wing evangelical claims that secular liberals are weak on "values." Paul's study confirms globally what is already evident in the U.S.: When it comes to "values," if you look at facts rather than mere rhetoric, the substantially more secular blue states routinely leave the Bible Belt red states in the dust.

Murder rates? Six of the seven states with the highest 2003 homicide rates were "red" in the 2004 elections (Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, Arizona, Georgia, South Carolina), while the deep blue Northeastern states had murder rates well below the national average. Infant mortality rates? Highest in the South and Southwest; lowest in New England. Divorce rates? Marriages break up far more in red states than in blue. Teen pregnancy rates? The same.

Of course, the red/blue divide is only an imperfect proxy for levels of religiosity. And while Paul's study found that the correlation between high degrees of religiosity and high degrees of social dysfunction appears robust, it could be that high levels of social dysfunction fuel religiosity, rather than the other way around.

Although correlation is not causation, Paul's study offers much food for thought. At a minimum, his findings suggest that contrary to popular belief, lack of religiosity does societies no particular harm. This should offer ammunition to those who maintain that religious belief is a purely private matter and that government should remain neutral, not only among religions but also between religion and lack of religion. It should also give a boost to critics of "faith-based" social services and abstinence-only disease and pregnancy prevention programs.

We shouldn't shy away from the possibility that too much religiosity may be socially dangerous. Secular, rationalist approaches to problem-solving emphasize uncertainty, evidence and perpetual reevaluation. Religious faith is inherently nonrational.

This in itself does not make religion worthless or dangerous. All humans hold nonrational beliefs, and some of these may have both individual and societal value. But historically, societies run into trouble when powerful religions become imperial and absolutist.

The claim that religion can have a dark side should not be news. Does anyone doubt that Islamic extremism is linked to the recent rise in international terrorism? And since the history of Christianity is every bit as blood-drenched as the history of Islam, why should we doubt that extremist forms of modern American Christianity have their own pernicious and measurable effects on national health and well-being?

Arguably, Paul's study invites us to conclude that the most serious threat humanity faces today is religious extremism: nonrational, absolutist belief systems that refuse to tolerate difference and dissent.

My prediction is that right-wing evangelicals will do their best to discredit Paul's substantive findings. But when they fail, they'll just shrug: So what if highly religious societies have more murders and disease than less religious societies? Remember the trials of Job? God likes to test the faithful.

To the truly nonrational, even evidence that on its face undermines your beliefs can be twisted to support them. Absolutism means never having to say you're sorry.

And that, of course, is what makes it so very dangerous.

I dont know...I'm kind of doubting myself, right now. Can I really make it in college? Am I going to be something in life? Does Anyone actually like me as me? I know everyone hides behind something sometimes, but maybe i can't get my mask off. Maybe Im destined to be just that guy you may have seen before, but has done nothing to change the world; just be engulfed in it, like a sheep (a sheep, sheepy?)- they do have a purpose though (Clothing). I dont Know am i even a good person, do I lift people up when their down or put a smile on someone's face? Seeing the people dying from disasters has shown the mortality and volatility of life. Cherish the moments; the boring, the exciting, and everything in between because it could be gone...like that. My dad seems to be starting to have health problems- arthritis in many joints, sleep problems, takes a lot of pills for others, family history of early death. My biggest fear is losing someone I care about, even if I just met someone, I hope for them to do well. But it kind of scares me... Also I just can't seem to put the academics together, I dont have the focus and taking the easy way out always appears to be the way to go. 100% is not something that describes my work ethic (except in vices such as drinking/gambling/overeating, etc.). Everyone's been cool but I dont really offer anything back. Maybe that's why the homeless people and other derilicts flock near me, they know their better than me and want to shat in my face about their new can they found on the ground, or something of that nature.

I dont think i know its college yet, it seems like summer do what u want with a little class in between. Of course i have been known as a slacker in the past, but i have dedicated myself to changing that...starting thursday september 21st. I will still do my sure of super duperific stuff, but some time will be provided for studying. However I tend to get sidetracked and do N E thing to avoid doing something constructive- but i am writingg this all in present tense with a clear thesis, so its like im doing WRA writing. Academics sucked ass this week, i run like a half mile at 6:30 and trip onto the grass only to go there a bomb the test b/c i forgot everything and dozed off a little; guessing when there are 10 choices arent good odds. Last night was meet the floor under and above us, i didnt answer the door b/c i had to read and i could tell they were ugly black chicks (asian instinct) plus they were loud as hell!! I'm a fucking retard, i should have taken the chem test today and aced it instead of doin other things, but n e ways i signed up for the alternate for 6:45 Tuesday, and i have no FUCKING idea where it is so i have to study prob. an allnighter or else i wouldnt be able to get up. So heres my plan i have to walk to the chem building and pray that they have it posted or that its open then try wilson hall (where i would have taken it today) and do this at like 5 thirty because i need enough time to get across campus because the buses start at 7, and if im lucky enough to take it, i have to book it to ISS where i have to listen to hawaii 5-0 enlighten me about what i didnt read. Since im up at 2:45 ill waste more time; WRA paper is gonna work me just how i like ir grrl, glad i learned exactly nothing in english last year. my roomate is snoring, the fan is on, i noticed we have a tree in front of the window, my 150 watt lamp melted my marker literally ( thankx roomie for noticing b/c all my things would have melted b/c i just dont notice the smell of burnin plastic). Weekend was decent, hangin w/ moms and paps wasnt that bad except my mom bitched at me to eat my grapes and vacuum my room like 10 times. ...so classes have just started for my freshman year of 4,5, or 6 and i'm already tired of going to them. same thing over and over. take notes that i'll never read and when class is over, i forget everything as fast as i can so i can relax. whoever invented school is a dumbass, and thinks completely different than me. But alas i will have to do good for some classes (WRA 125, CEM141) that i care nothing for. Im taking a calc class that i took last year.

school that's not what i call a life. i can't wait until my life starts and i participate in meaningful things. we go to school for 17 some years just so we can get a job and work there for the rest of our lives. depressing thought for me.

But theres always parties on the weekends, watching movies, hangin out, etc. Mon pere et frere are coming up tomorrow (no comment), 2 tests monday. I miss my own car just drivin around

cuz the bus is makin me fat but ill prob. join a rec team. So evidently we have been conditioned to obey authority like doctors (the book says they have a 12% error rate) are followed blindly b/c they are considered an expert. I knew they werent that good they prob. gave me the wrong drugs and im gonna die young and grow a second head or somethin. N E ways i think really weird and obese people feel secure around me or somethin b/c they like to sit next to me on the bus and talk to me when im half asleep in the morning (damn u 8.AM classes), today's weird person of the day on the bus to meijer is some guy who smelled like he lived in sewage sat next to me and inquired about me and told me about his ex-wife, i tell him im majoring in engineering he says thats good b/c the world needs construction workers and ditch diggers and im like sure thats my dream to fix the potholes of america...i think i need to start running me and some dude i know are tryin to get back in shape (any ideas besides running?). my phone can finally pick up ringtones and all that crap but they're expensive. therefore i need a job which i have said i needed for 8 months, but i know people in the caf. and it sux, maybe i could be a bard or somethin b/c everyone has heard my amazing singing voice- but 20 dollars, a bus pass, and an id prob. not gonna cut it anymore. chem class is a joke, and my professor a doctorate? it seems like my grandma who died 20 years ago (RIP) could teach the class, and no offense but i cant stand the odor of an unnamed nationality group person, sorry. might sign up for some stuff at the im b/c it sounds like fun, parental unit 2 is coming up on sunday, joy to the world b/c she can take my laundry home (what women are supposed to do) jay kay. so sterling soccer is undefeated and football is winless, somewhat ironic. i think the hurricane was mishandled but what do ya expect from bush and fema- no one cares bout us minorities. lions will kill da bears (directed toward roomate), i knew there were many secret michigan wolverine fans in the shadows at msu. free tix to wharton center shows but i looked they're pretty much stinkers unless lion king is still the shit for u disney lovers. constantine is a weird movie, found the movie theater yay. Boops, i whish i was a pirate but it'd be hard givin me a name: some famous pirates: black beard, henry every, captain kidd: i want a ship so i can pillage; ill be starin darren. i was perusin around and noticed evidently michganders (ganians?) have an accent: Its a perfect combination of East Coast volume and speed, soft West Coast vowels, perfect Midwest cadence and inflection, with just a touch of genuine Black Vernacular. i hate that train!!!!!!!peace out. So its been a little while, um classes have been cool, i fell asleep in ISS b/c the back wall was so comfortable and U of Hawai'i is the profs 2nd school but they got own3d by the green and white. MTH is easy...bowling lookin good... WRA is so damn early and this crap we're reading is stupid... Im probably gonna go to some of the poker tournaments until i run out of money (prob. 1 tournament)...MEIJER!!!...Spottyy!...meetin a lot of cool people...some losers visited the other day(jk)... i think i called a lot of people when i was at the frat some girl i knows b/f told me he'd slit my throat (bring it.. i got mad ninja skillz)...michigan lost :( yeah i cant go against my other team... football tomorrow woooooooo!!..."no i dont want to run with u"...love,actually is not a bad movie..hackers is awesome!!...gotta find the theatre...fat girls dige me...a truck got jacked in my ghetto (hubbard)...Ne t'en fais pas Etre Heureux

Im goin back to the Heights Saturday Morning. I am down to 3 dollars in my wallet w/ a bus pas and a meal plan, u think thats gonna last me the semester? N E ways i guess my WRA teacher hates technology or somethin but he's actually pretty interesting "technology makes the world more complex, that is why we always look for the simplest answer". Gotta buy some junk 4 my room and do my laundry. 2 classes in a row w/o being late WOOOOOOO. Some people who work at mcdonalds are just plain weird. Also i dont like the math prof. cuz she reminds me of hutton: write examples on the board do a couple problems get a paycheck, good thing i took calc already and the stuff is easy. Bus drivers are bitchy sometimes.
